I want one now! Don't think I can justify spending the money right now though!

"I want one now! Don't think I can justify spending the money right now though!" :

If you sign up for the newsletter from www.ohmycrafts.com, they will send you *generous* coupon codes. Right now, the code "SUMMER25" will get you 25% off of any order over $75.00. Using the same discount about three months ago, I got my Sil for $226.40, which included shipping and a $10 download card for the Silhouette online store.

Even if you aren't ready to get one now, seriously sign up for the newsletter for when you are!

regina

A couple of ideas:

Use your double cut function. I've found that with any intricate cuts and especially with small point true type fonts that it helps tremendously to double cut. Also try backing your speed down to 1, then go have a sandwich or glass of tea while you wait.

Fontwise, try out some of the LetteringDelights fonts by "scrapnfonts" in the online store. They tend to be chunkier and are designed as cutting files, so they often cut cleaner than many of theTTFs. There are TTFs that cute beautifully- I have a list of the better ones for cutting if you are interested.

Keep the mat sticky. If it's kinda crusty, try a lint roller, washing with dawn dishwashing soap and air drying, or resticking it with krylon easy tack.

Blades wear down with fabric super fast, far quicker than the six months or so I get with paper. Inspect it before every use to make sure it isn't chipped, and replace doubtful blades. If you have one that has never cut well, it may be defective. Silhouette is great about replacing bad blades if you suspect that's the problem.

And it all else fails: try using fabric transfer media. Works like a charm every single stinkin time, and is available in fab colors and patterns, even holographic. I've even used rubber stamps with heat embossing and gotten great results.

information overload, probably, but I hope it helps!

regina
Thank you! I actually had the machine do 2-3 cuts for each letter and object. I will try putting the speed down to one.

I would love a list of fonts if you have them, just so i know what cuts best.
I think i may need to replace the blade because i did a huge bow order that used glitter transfer media and i know that dulls the blade alot, so that could be another reason the hologram spandex didnt cut well!

Cheergrl445:

try these out- they are all free TT fonts, just search them in your favorite font provider and they should come right up. I gave a monogram and a name beside each one so you can see what they look like. I have about a dozen more on my laptop but these are the ones I also have at work. If I am not run ragged tonight I'll try to post you a part2. Use them in bold, and dont be afraid to stretch them out in your layout to get them chunkier if you need to. If you need any help getting them to install, just let me know.

Glitter sure as stink tears up a cutting blade. I have found no cheap substitue for just reordering them either, but apparently the folks at Sil are looking at a redesign so that we can replace just the blade and not the housing. That isn't taking forever or anything, huh?

Smiles,
regina

So far Spandex is the only type of fabric I have cut with it.
What are your settings? I am planning on making spandex bows also and am investing in either a cricut or a silhouette. Have you used the rhinestone designs from the silhouette? Are there any problems that you had with your silhouette?
