I use 50/50 water starch.
I usually starch the parts seperately then build the bow after they are dry. That way your pieces hold their shape and it is easier to see how everything will lie together. Whe I have a rush order I assemble then spray so if need be the customer can take it still damp.
I actually get those orders alot. My friend last week called in labor and on the way to the hospital and needed a bow for her older daughter to wear when she comes to the hospital to meet the baby. So I had little time to make the bow then sent it with her a bit damp still.
In other words...there's no "wrong" way to do it.
