In a pinch serger thread works when sewing. For everyday use, I would not use it. It is thinner and meant to be used on a serger. I would not trust a seam sewn with serger thread to hold/last as long as a seam sewn with thread meant for a sewing machine.
i tend to agree w/you . . . but i do cheat & use thinner/cheaper cone thread in the bobbin when machine embroidering . . . why waste the good stuff!
but, a downside to using this thread is that a fair amount of lint does accumulate in the bobbin case - so it has to be blown/brushed out a little more frequently.
