I always used Coats & Clark button/craft thread for a number of costuming things that needed a more heavy-duty thread, so that's what I use to tie bows also. :-)

One thing I discovered is that when I tried to tie my bow off like a friend does by only taking the thread around the bow once, the thread breaks. I continue to do it 'my way' and wrap it around twice before tying my knot, so I get a lot more tension to the tie without breaking the thread. Anyone else do it this way?

Must be something with the laws of physics - I guess it works like a pulley in that wrapping it twice gives more length to pull on so it takes the tension better???
