I know this is a spendy option, but I do have 2 registers since I run my children's consignment sale. Actually, I need to have more registers for the Fall Sale... Anyhow, the registers are 99 (I think) at Sams. They lock, store tax info, etc.
You can also buy a money box at Walmart. I think they are 10-ish bucks or so. It'll be in the office supply area (I think). We have one of those that we use too.
I agree... folks will do the distraction thingy in order to steal. It's hard to watch out for that. I also have people hit me up for money all the time. This happens every month in Canton. I don't know if I look exceptionally stupid or if it's something about Canton.
