Default Putting holes in bottle caps for necklaces

I have a serious problem. I have *a ton* of bottle caps to sell this weekend, but can't get a nice hole in them to put the jump ring through. I've tried a punch I got from Michael's (it scratched the paint on the cap, plus was *super* hard to punch). Tried a nail and hammer (raggedy sharp edges where the nail went through). Tried a drill (same problem with the sharp edges where the drill bit went through). I ordered the punch Michelle sells in her shop for the bottle caps, but I'm worried it won't be here in time . Any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong or alternate ways to get a nice hole through those dang things??? Thanks!!
