Unhappy Singed flower help

I have the singed flower tut and I've made a few flowers from organza that I think turned out pretty good. In the tut it says that you can use crepeback satin so last weekend I went and bought a BUNCH of crepeback satin but can not for the life of me get it to look right. Does anyone have any special tricks to get the flower to look right? The fabric is gorgeous but it looks really funny when I try to get it to ruffle on the edges like a petal. The tut said not to use the cheap stuff, so of course I think I got the most expensive polyester satin I could find. My guy is going to be really mad if I can't make flowers out of all this fabic, please help.

Thanks in advance!!

The first two pics are my first singed I've made, the last two are when I try to use satin.
