When I first started out making bows and headbands I copied a headband my friend purchased in a boutique. (I later found out it was from It was a 3/8" skinny headband made with 3/8" ribbon and it was not overlapped at all. I had no problem recreating it. When I started in with 7/8" ribbon, I found I had to overlap and it made a horrible mess in the end! So now I just stick to the flat, edge to edge with the 3/8" ribbon and it always comes out perfect. My hands cramp like crazy making them, but they always look professional and neat. lol
