I'm not familiar with GIMP, but as long as you can keep it on a transparent background, you should be able to open just your watermark image, then size it down, make it translucent, and save it under a different name. Then you should just be able to use that document (under the new name) and paste it on any future pictures. That way you don't have to alter it every time.
