I use elastic thread that I get at HL. I always wrap it around the bow 2 -3 times, then tie a double knot. I can wiggle it around afterwards to make sure everything is even. Then I usually put a dot of hot glue under a fold on each side to make sure the bow doesn't move around. I've tried sewing, using thread and floss and found that the elastic thread works the best for me (but I don't make butterflies or loopy boutique bows or whatever you guys call them - mainly tails-down pinwheels).
