I use 3/8" ribbon to make 1.75" basic bow. Length of the ribbon: 4loops x 2" + 2tails x 1"=12".

Use 7/8" ribbon to make 2" basic bow. Length would be:

4loops x 2.25" + 2tails x 1"=11".

Use 7/8" ribbon to make 3" basic bow. Length:

4loops x3.5" +2tailsx1.5"=17".

Use 1.5" ribbon to make 4" basic bow. Length:

4loops x 4.5" + 2tails x2"=22".

Use 1.5" ribbon to make 4.5" basic bow. Length:

4loops x 5" + 2tails x2"=24"

Different length makes the bows look different. There is no rule for this. Just use a piece of ribbon and fold the bow. If the like it, write down the number (bow size, loop length and tail length) so you can refer later.

By the way, I'm in Chicago.
