The whole point (at least IMO) of stacking on a needle is to purposely arrange them "all spread out" - you aren't trying to make them stack on top of each other. Once you've stacked them on a needle, make sure you have a good, big knot tied into the end of the string & slide all the pieces into the string.

Oh heck, Here's a tut. About half way through she starts sewing. It'll be easier than trying to explain it!! Hope this helps!
