To attach the bow, you just glue it on, there's no other way (that I've found anyway). I don't use these ones very often and usually only attach little appliques to them.

Totally agree! These are a pain in the butt, but are so great. I prefer these in my DD's hair because they are not as bulky as an alligator clip, and hold the hair great!
I also agree that adding just an applique is an easy way to adorn these clips.
Practice on a few to get your technique down. I'm pretty sure I tossed about 10 of these before I thought they looked good.
