Default Stacked bow/upside down bottom

When you make your stacked bows with spikes and loops, do you turn your bottom bow upside down and then stack your layers on top? My instructions say to do that, but was wondering what method you guys use. I'm assuming that it's upside down so that the spikes lie flat on the backside of the bow when it's upside down.
