The grosgrain actually does the best and seems to hold it's shape the best, we'll be doing a buy for the 1/8" grosgrain from YAMA after the first of the year. There's a minimum of 400 yards per color tho, so we need a bunch to get it through. I always buy at least 100 yard roll as it takes so much to kork this. I use my regular 1/4" dowel rod, but with the smaller ribbon, they are awesomely cute.
