Get a ceramic coffee mug and set it down in there when you are not using it for the moment. Do not drop it on carpet, flooring and esp your lap. Keep fingers away. It burns so quickly. Ask me and others how we know. LOL I use the shaft when I have already cut my ribbons, like for sculptures. I can only find my chisel tip so I use that to cut and seal if I am needing ribbon like that. You just go very quickly with a swipe to cut and seal. This is how I do mine.
