Default If you make Fabric covered buttons...

I'm new to fabric covered buttons and was hoping you gals could help me out on diameters. I'm looking into printing our school's circular crest onto fabric at to use to make pony-os.
I'm trying to figure out how big the cut circle of fabric needs to be... If I'm trying to cover size 60 buttons (1.5 inches) the circle design on the face of the button will be about 1.25 inches across, then how big does the total circle of fabric need to be (including the part that gets folded under the back plate) I'm thinking 2.5 inches across?

I guess an easier way of asking would be how much excess fabric do you need to wrap around the back and secure the botton? TIA
