those are tied korkers and trimmed and rounded out--looks like 3/8" dowels were used leaving a little space in between when placing ribbon around them. i tied some korkers and also sew some--those are def. at least 35-40 korkers. i bake before spraying starch and if i have any printed ribbon, i set the oven at a lower setting--200 degrees and bake for 15-20min. sometimes i will bake it again after it's done, but a lot of times there isn't a need for me to do it again.
here's a pic of mine using 40 2 1/2" korkers, wrapped on a 1/4" dowel tightly, still need to trim more to have the ball shape, but this is my tied korker. Good luck!! you got a lot of good advice from everyone
