~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
1) Open the photo you wish the change by clicking on file, open, then select the file.
2) Add another Layer by clicking on Layer, then Duplicate Layer.
3) Change the Background Copy to Black and White. Click on Enhance, Adjust Color, Remove Color.
4) Zoom in on where you want to select color and click on the eraser tool.
5)You can choose the size of brush you use to erase the black and white. This is what I use for filling in the inside. I use a smaller brush to outline the outside of the item. To get it too look really good, zoom in very close.
6) Start erasing my clicking on your mouse where you want color and move the brush around.
This is what it should look like when you are done!
Thank you! Very nice instructions! I've been trying to figure out how to do this for a while now! I don't find it to be the most user-friendly program, so any help is appreciated!
ahhhhaaa... I am taking a community class on Elements 6.0... we did this just the other day...
lets see if I can walk you thru it...
  1. do all your lighting fixes and color fixes first
  2. in your Image menu ~ drop down to resize ~ that will fly out another menu ~ choose canvas size ~ click
  3. screen will pop up that you can then change the size of the CANVAS... increase canvas to the size you want...meaning if you want a 1 inch border increase the Width and height by 1 inch or whatever size you want...
  4. at this point you now should have a border around your pic
  5. what he taught us to do next is to use the magic wand and click on the pic
  6. marching ants should appear going around the border and the picture... if they go into the picture you need to UNDO then adjust the tolerance up or down to where only the border and pic are surrounded
  7. for solid color border do the following for patterned see #10
  8. you can then use the sample tool to sample a color out of the picture to be used as border color
  9. then click ALT and backspace and that will fill the color in the border
  10. if you want a pattern thats preset or have your own then do this
  11. click on the paintcan
  12. up in the top there is the pattern box
  13. choose a pattern... then use the paintcan and click in your white border
  14. pattern of choice should fill only the border
hope this is followable
