I just go by how it looks. My loops are always symetrically even cause of how I fold and "measure" my ribbon before I fold the bow, but as for the center, if you look at the bow it's like two straight pieces across the middle, one looping up on both ends and one looping down. well sometimes these two straight pieces lay perfectly lined up against one another, and sometimes I have to slide them apart a little so they only overlap. If that makes sense.
