Mine did that at the beginning. Try cutting your lengths shorter. Here's what I do: use a 5/8ths dowel, wrapping the ribbon tightly around the dowel so that there is no spacing, spraying it w/ starch, cook @ 325 for 25 minutes, cutting them at 3", tie them tightly, & spray w/ a stiffner....that is basically how I do mine.
