I'm sorry to say but it really takes practice to get spikes just right. there are a few ribbon sellers that sell pre-cut spikes if you just can't get the hang of it.

also make sure your cutting them at the same angle so they match. if u post a pic we might be able to help u better on eactly what u need to work on : )
