My favorite method for ruffling/gathering has become the 'Dental Floss Method,' which is why my ruffler foot is sitting around gathering dust. Just lay a piece of dental floss on top of the fabric along the line you need gathered and zig-zag stitch over it, being sure not to sew through the floss. Then, pull on the dental floss through the zig-zag 'tunnel' to get perfect gathers that you can then sew onto whatever you're gathering. It works great for multiple layers of fabric and thick fabrics, or just regular cottons, etc.  |
